The Program
The Sustainable Homes Program, provides energy-saving home upgrades and access to healthy and affordable clean energy. Most participants will not pay upfront costs or need to find their own contractors. Immediate savings on your energy bill are likely. The program is operated by Cooperative Energy Futures (CEF), with support from the City of Minneapolis.
To participate in this program:
You must live in the City of Minneapolis
You must own and occupy a single family residence
Your household must have lived in your home for at least one year.
The Sustainable Homes Program is designed to be accessible to low and moderate-income households, ensuring everyone can access an efficient home, fueled by clean energy.
Don’t miss our NEXT Info session!
Join us for a Sustainable Homes Informational Event at Camden High School on November 22, 5-7:30pm.
We’ll have food and drinks, a puppet show, free home air quality testing, and stories about what we’ve already accomplished around the city. Childcare and language services provided upon request.
Cooperative Energy Futures’ Sustainable Homes Program includes:
1) Home energy assessment:
CEF will complete an assessment in your home to identify upgrades that will reduce your home’s gas use and lower your bills.2) Upgrade Choices
After the assessment, you will meet with a CEF Program Specialist, and choose the upgrade offer that works best for you:
Insulation
Heating and cooling equipment such as Air Source Heat Pumps or efficient furnaces
Electric panel upgrades
Access to Solar - through Community Solar subscriptions or rooftop solar.
3) Rebates:
When possible, upgrade offers will incorporate rebates and incentives administered by utilities, the City of Minneapolis, and the state of Minnesota.
4) Coverage of upfront costs:
For many upgrade options, CEF will cover the majority or all upfront costs. You will pay a monthly service charge for a term determined in your upgrade offer. Overall, after including this charge, you can still expect to save money on an annual basis, compared to what your bills would have been without completing the upgrades.
5) Contractor Relationship Vetting and Management:
CEF will manage contractor relationships with pre-approved and vetted contractors to complete each step of the upgrade process.
